Remembering the Ultimate Price for our Freedom

This weekend a grateful nation takes time to remember and give Memorial Day 2013-thumb2thanks for the sacrifice our men and women in uniform have made for us throughout our history. As I work on behalf of our churches in the Regular Baptist Chaplains ministry, I want to help people understand the importance of Memorial Day.  We need to divorce ourselves from the idea that this is just another three-day weekend, a time for cookouts with friends and family. While enjoying the days off, we must remember the significance of this weekend. Randy Vader reminds us, “The story of America’s quest for freedom is inscribed on her history in the blood of her patriots.” Remember the families who have empty places at their tables and at their gatherings of celebration because their loved ones gave their lives so we could freely enjoy the holiday with our loved ones.

I would encourage you to make your community’s Memorial Day observance a part of your family’s plans so you can help your children and family members learn the true price of freedom and show your gratitude for the sacrifices made for your freedom.

To those families within our fellowship of churches who have empty seats at their tables, we thank you and honor you for the ultimate sacrifice you have made for our country and our freedom.

As you enjoy this Memorial Day weekend, please uphold our military personnel and their families in prayer. At the same time, thank the Lord for those who gave their lives for our freedom and ask Him to comfort and meet the needs of their families.
