Compassion fatigue, bereavement ministry, and crisis response were the topics of discussion during Tuesday’s 2019 annual conference chaplaincy training module. Andy Bittle, pastor of counseling ministries at Living Waters Fellowship in Des Moines, Iowa, and a Certified Biblical Counselor, led the day’s discussion.

After Bittle’s presentation, police chaplain Dick Dayton shared his experience ministering to those who were affected by a 2017 police shooting that resulted in the death of one of the officers. This spurred additional conversations pertaining to the unique ministry opportunities chaplains face.

“It was a great opportunity to have Andy speak to our chaplains,” says Manning Brown, director of Regular Baptist Chaplaincy . “It is important that we are able to openly discuss the challenges found in the chaplaincy and how to better deal with those challenges.”
