Chaplains attend a training module prior to the Annual GARBC Conference.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Regular Baptist chaplains attended a chaplaincy training module Monday afternoon, prior to Annual GARBC Conference. The conference is taking place Monday through Thursday this week.

“After not being able to meet last year, it was so good to meet in person,” says Manning Brown, director and endorser for Regular Baptist Chaplaincy.

The training module, with 25 chaplains attending, focused on chaplain self-care and resiliency.

Chaplaincy has always carried a high degree of stress. But the unique challenges of the past 16 months also highlighted the importance of self-care for chaplains.

“The pandemic demonstrated the critical need for having chaplains available to provide Christ-centered counsel, comfort, and care 24-7,” Manning says. And during that crisis, “chaplains also had incredible opportunities for ministry,” Manning says.

The training module focused on how chaplains can identify their own stress, how to respond to it, and how to prevent its effects.

“There was great interaction among our chaplains as they shared their own experiences,” Manning says. “It was a great session, and just as importantly, it was great to reconnect with our chaplains face-to-face. I’m already looking forward to next year.”
