Chaplaincy Training at the GARBC Conference

By June 27, 2017No Comments

Nearly 20 chaplains attended annual chaplaincy training on Tuesday at the 2017 GARBC conference. The session began with members of Sandy Cove Ministries staff discussing a program available to military families reunited after deployments. Operation Oasis provides the opportunity for families to reconnect at Sandy Cove free of charge, whether for a family vacation, couples weekend getaway, or personal retreat. Information about this program can be found at events.sandycove.org/free-military-stays.

Next, Rev. Jim Combs, GARBC chaplain and pastor of The River Church in Holly, Michigan, spoke on addictions. During his presentation, Combs discussed some of the causes of addictions, various types of addictions, and how to reach out to those suffering from addictions. He pointed out that addiction impacts every facet of our communities, and that being prepared to reach them with the gospel is vital.

Steve Viars, pastor of Faith Church in Lafayette, Indiana, presented information on reaching out to communities. Viars’ presentation centered on principles that guide the Christian witness to a lost and dying world. The workshop culminated with a time for questions and answers and fellowship.

The GARBC endorses nearly 100 chaplains who serve in the military and in community service and institutional settings. To find out more, visit www.regularbaptistchaplaincy2.garbc.org/about.
