Hawaiian Vow Renewal

Jan. 31 at sunset was the day and time set aside for a vow renewal service for Chaplain (CPT) Mark Worrell and his wife, Shelly. Mark has been deployed to Iraq since May 2009 and had his midterm leave Jan. 24–Feb. 7. The Worrells had decided to spend most of Mark’s two-week leave in Hawaii. When Shelly learned that the GARBC has a chaplain stationed in Hawaii, she began corresponding with Kezia, wife of Chaplain (CPT) Randy Curry, to surprise Mark with a vow renewal ceremony on a Hawaiian beach.

At dinner one evening, Mark and Randy were discussing deployment and discovered that Chaplain Curry is the battalion chaplain for one of the MP companies stationed with Mark at COS Hunter. “A small world and a big God!” Mark says. The next day Randy, Mark, and Shelly met at Randy’s office and had the opportunity to meet his commander and others in the unit. They also took a short tour of Schofield Barracks, where Randy and Kezia serve.

Ch Worrell has re-joined his troops to complete his tour in Iraq, thankful for a special, memorable time of R&R.
