Chaplain Michael Wood Retires

By February 15, 2012No Comments

Lt. Col. Michael Wood has retired from active duty after 26 years of service with the U.S. Army, first as a commander in the field artillery and then as a chaplain. A retirement ceremony was held at Fort Knox on Jan. 27.

Michael has served in Kuwait and Iraq and was a strategic part of filling his team’s mission. When his unit was preparing to deploy to Iraq, his commander remarked, “I could not have asked for a better chaplain than Mike.”

Whether serving in the U.S. or overseas, Michael felt at home with a Bible and a soldier. His greatest desire was to help soldiers, and a highlight of his day was any time he could open the Scriptures and share the Word of God with them—behind a pulpit, in Bible study, at his duty station, or in the field as the troops protected our freedom.

“Michael and his wife, Kathy, have faithfully served God and our fellowship of churches in all of their assignments with integrity and loyalty,” says Chaplain John Murdoch, director of Regular Baptist Chaplaincy Ministries.

Michael and Kathy have three children, Michael, Amanda, and Christy. The Woods will be returning to their home in Tennessee, where Michael will continue to serve God in a civilian ministry. Murdoch says, “We pray God’s richest blessings on them!”
