Chaplain John Jensen deployed in February to Kuwait, where he is the chaplain at Camp Buehring. As such, he is responsible for all religious services performed at the camp. Though he does not conduct all the services, he makes sure every service member has opportunity to worship according to his or her own faith. Therefore, he oversees and coordinates 13 weekly services, including contemporary and traditional Protestant services, a Latter-day Saints service, and daily Catholic masses, each averaging over 300 worshipers. The various chapels also have five different religious education events and five music rehearsals (with over 30 volunteers).
Thirteen chaplains and their assistants (Unit Ministry Teams) from both active and reserve components work under Jensen in the four religious support facilities, one of which is the Spiritual Life Center. The Spiritual Life Center has eight offices for the UMTs, a quiet room, a prayer room, a waterfall, and a coffee bar, which sees nearly 200 visitors each week. This month Jensen is planning an Easter sunrise service and coordinating transportation for Jewish personnel to travel to another post for a Passover celebration.
Please pray for Chaplain Jensen, who has heavy administrative responsibility, as he takes advantage of the many opportunities afforded him for ministering the Word in counseling and preaching. Pray that our military personnel dealing with the stresses that are unique to deployment will be responsive to the Word and will make decisions that will count for eternity.
